Welcome to BookCove
This site exists to develop and provide software tools for book production and digital publishing. There are two guiding principles for books produced by the code on this site: (1) all books are "born as Git," meaning their sole source of truth is a public GitHub repository, as (2) all formats of all books are generated from a single XML source file. The XML is a proper subset of TEI.
The site is organized based on activities: in the Library users can find books that have been produced using the tools available here. In the Factory, users can see how the site’s tools can be used to produce more texts working from the original scans. Books can be produced for this site or for related sites. Some tools are available for use online. Some software tools are downloadable.

17-Dec-2025: The Catalog shows three books. The latest is "The Courage of Marge O’Doone." The first few paragraphs of the book are some of the most captivating I've read.
First pure "Born as Git" book produced
17-Dec-2025: "The Courage of Marge O’Doone" was produced entirely from the public GitHub repository. A book can be added to the bookcove collection simply by adding a repository containing the information needed. That's a source file (TEI subset), optional CSS, images, and a metadata JSON file.
